To mark Global Data Protection Day 2017, the data protection team at Philip Lee hosted a breakfast briefing this morning which offered practical guidance on the steps organisations need to take to ensure they are GDPR-compliant.
Our first speaker, the Data Protection Commissioner, Helen Dixon, gave an overview of the GDPR challenges faced by organisations and regulators.
Anne Bateman, Partner here at Philip Lee took to the stage and spoke about the many obligations that organisations must prepare for within the next 16 months, in time for the GDPR go-live date of 25 May 2018. This included the detailed guidance published in December 2016 by the Article 29 Working Group (the collective body of EU data protection regulators) about key GDPR topics, what organisations should be doing now, and what to expect in 2017.
