Philip Lee LLP is delighted to announce that Alan Connell, formerly Managing Partner and Head of Tax at Eversheds Sutherland Ireland, has joined the firm as a Senior Partner in our Tax Practice. Alan will work alongside Michael McGivern, Head of Tax, as part of the continued expansion of the firm’s tax offering.

The firm’s tax practice is designed to integrate seamlessly with Philip Lee’s broader legal services, offering clients strategic advice across corporate transactions, cross-border structuring, and regulatory planning.  The appointment of Alan Connell, a leading figure in Irish tax law, marks a significant milestone in this journey.

Alan is a leading lawyer with extensive experience in corporate tax law and has advised on some of the largest inward investment and restructuring projects in Ireland. He primarily advises international financial institutions and corporations (including Fortune 100 companies) doing business in and from Ireland and is standing tax counsel to numerous internationally focused organisations in respect of their Irish operations.

Alan’s practice encompasses all aspects of corporate tax with particular emphasis on, and expertise in, inward investment projects, cross border tax planning, corporate restructurings, public and private mergers and acquisitions, demergers, flotations, private equity, joint ventures, as well as transfer pricing. He also advises on Irish stamp duty matters, particularly in the context of global reorganisations.

In addition to being a member of the Law Society of Ireland, the Law Society of Northern Ireland and the Law Society of England and Wales, Alan is an active member of a number of international tax bodies, including the International Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association and the American Chamber of Commerce. Alan is a frequent speaker on taxation law topics and has written on Irish tax issues for many professional publications including, the International Tax Review, Tax Notes International, the International Comparative Legal Guide and the Irish Tax Review.

Alan is widely recognised as a leading tax practitioner by Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, World Tax and Who’s Who Legal. Alan advises across a range of industry sectors and his recent experience includes:

  • Advising Intel on the $11 billion strategic joint venture investment by Apollo relating to Intel’s Fab 34 Irish facility, the largest M&A transaction in Ireland in recent years.
  • Assisting Eirgrid Group and Reseau de Transport d’Electricite on the €1 billion plus energy transition project, being first interconnector between Ireland and continental Europe.
  • Advising Tokyo based Sojitz Group on the purchase of Irish energy company Pinergy, which was award Impact Deal of the Year at the International Tax Review EMEA 2025 awards.
  • Acting for LinkedIn on one of the largest lease transactions in the Irish market in the last year with both Stripe and EY at Wilton Park.
