Training and Knowledge Management

We have invested heavily in technological solutions to ensure developments in the law, thought leadership, legal practice and advice are captured and disseminated throughout the firm. A Knowledge Management (KM) system has been developed which is tailored to best meet the needs of our individual practice areas to ensure they can access latest legal developments. The KM system provides a common platform that streamlines the process of accessing and using essential “Know How” from a mixture of internal and online information resources. The solution integrates with our internal databases including a Know How database and Library Management system. It also delivers a common approach to searching over 30 online information resources including a large number of Irish resources.

Consistent with our ethos of recruiting and training “best in class lawyers”, we also operate an inhouse training programme managed by a dedicated training and knowledge management executive, Nicholas Makin. Under Nick’s stewardship, each department within the firm is required to develop and implement training for all team members, with individual topics typically being the subject of seminars delivered by individual team members on a regular and co-ordinated basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive legal administrative support to the Corporate team.
  • Manage the end-to-end file lifecycle using the firm’s legal case management system.
  • File management – importing guidelines, accessing documents, sending demand letters, and making sure files remain updated.
  • Prepare materials and information for internal and external meetings.
  • Client billing – coordinating the team’s monthly billing process, ensuring invoices are issued on time and accurately.
  • Diary management – making sure schedules are organised correctly and there are no conflicts with diaries.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to understand and respond to their requirements.
  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Ensure accuracy and speed in document production, coordinating with document specialists when required.
  • Manage travel arrangements and detailed itineraries.
  • Process time records and expense reports; and
  • Greet and liaise with clients and business visitors in a professional manner.

Candidate Profile

  • 3–5+ years’ experience as a Legal Secretary, preferably within a corporate department.  
  • Experience managing a portfolio of senior stakeholders within the legal field.
  • Experience using iManage or another case management system.
  • Experience using a billing platform (KeyHouse or other).
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in the strictest level of confidentiality.
  • Superb communication skills in both verbal and written format.
  • Time management skills that allow you to coordinate multiple competing tasks.
  • A positive, can-do approach to work, even in challenging situations.

We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Employment Lawyer to join our Employment team. The successful candidate will advise employers on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment law matters, working closely with partners and associates across the firm.

About The Role

Philip Lee is seeking an ambitious and talented litigation lawyer to join its Litigation team, with a particular focus on planning, environmental, regulatory and public law disputes.

The successful candidate will advise on complex and high-profile matters, including judicial reviews, statutory challenges, regulatory investigations and public law proceedings. They will be part of a “Tier 1” (Legal 500) specialist practice group, working closely with a diverse client base, including, public bodies , developers, infrastructure providers, utilities and corporate clients, appearing before the courts and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage litigation matters from inception through to hearing, resolution and appeal where required.
  • Advise clients on judicial reviews, regulatory disputes, statutory challenges and public law proceedings.
  • Draft legal opinions and correspondence as well as pleadings, affidavits, written submissions in appropriate cases .
  • Work closely with clients, counsel, expert witnesses and technical consultants.
  • Work as part of a high-performance team and be capable of progressing matters independently.
  • Represent clients before courts, tribunals and regulatory bodies as appropriate.
  • Engage in continuous learning and development of specialist expertise.

Requirements 

  • Qualified solicitor with 2+ years’ PQE. 
  • Hands-on High Court litigation experience in Ireland, gained in a leading law firm or comparable environment. 
  • Experience in judicial review, regulatory, public law or commercial litigation. 
  • While practice experience in EU and Irish planning and environmental law is not essential, a genuine interest in this area is desirable. 
  • Good verbal communication and presentation skills are essential to the role.

Philip Lee LLP is seeking an ambitious Associate Solicitor (1-3 years PQE) to join our growing Climate Projects team. This is a unique opportunity to work on market-leading matters at the intersection of international climate law, carbon markets, project development, climate finance and sustainability regulation.

The successful candidate will gain exposure to a broad mix of transactional, regulatory and advisory work across voluntary and compliance carbon markets, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, climate project development, carbon removals, sustainable aviation fuels, corporate climate strategies and emerging climate technologies.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with partners, counsel and senior associates on a wide range of matters, including:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating carbon credit purchase agreements, ERPAs, pre-purchase agreements, framework supply agreements and offtake arrangements.
  • Advising climate project developers, investors and corporates on project development, financing and investment transactions.
  • Conducting legal and regulatory research on international climate law, carbon markets and evolving climate policy frameworks.
  • Advising clients on regulatory developments, including Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, CORSIA, the EU ETS, the EU Carbon Removal and Carbon Farming Certification Framework, and related climate initiatives.
  • Assisting with legal due diligence exercises for climate project investments, acquisitions and financing transactions.
  • Preparing client memoranda, regulatory briefings, board papers and strategic advice notes.
  • Reviewing project documentation and advising on legal, regulatory and commercial risk allocation.
  • Supporting host country engagement processes and Article 6 authorisation requirements.
  • Monitoring international market and regulatory developments and preparing client updates and thought leadership content.
  • Participating in client relationship management, business development initiatives, industry working groups and conferences.

Skills and Experience

  • Qualified solicitor in Ireland and/or England & Wales.
  • 1-3 years’ post-qualification experience gained within a leading commercial law firm or relevant in-house environment.
  • Experience in commercial contracts, corporate transactions, projects, energy, infrastructure, finance, environmental law, ESG or regulatory matters would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Strong drafting, analytical and legal research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in climate change, sustainability, carbon markets and emerging climate technologies.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within a collaborative and fast-paced international team.
