On 13 December 2025, Climate and Environment partner, Alice Whittaker was interviewed by Philip Boucher-Hayes on the RTE Radio 1 CountryWide programme.
She discussed the European Commission’s draft Nitrates Directive derogation decision, the pending CJEU reference ruling in Case C-531/24 (An Taisce) the hearing for which took place on 11 December, and the Ireland’s Article 17 Reports for 2025 published on 11 December, which “has found that 90% of habitats remain in Unfavourable status, with half showing ongoing declines.”
During the brief interview at the start of the segment, Alice discusses the conditions and likely further stipulations tied to Ireland securing the derogation extension to 31 December 2028.
