Business Plus Talks, Series 2: Episode 7 – James O’Connor, Microsoft Ireland Corporate Vice President

The seventh episode of Series 2 of Business Plus Talks, our podcast produced in association with Business Plus is now available.

Hosted by David Burke, the series brings listeners candid conversations with CEOs, innovators, policymakers and change-makers, exploring the pivotal moments that shaped their careers and perspectives.

The seventh guest of Series 2 is James O’Connor, Microsoft Ireland Corporate Vice President, following last week’s episode featuring Marian Finnegan, CEO of Sherry FitzGerald.

In this episode, James reflects on the pivotal decision that shaped his career – a phone call made after finishing school that redirected him from farming to studying computer science at Carlow IT. That choice set him on a path into the technology sector, beginning with early career experience at KPMG, where he learned the importance of challenging himself and stepping outside his comfort zone.

Now marking 30 years with Microsoft, James shares insights into his leadership journey, his daily routine, and the support of his family, which he describes as central to his success. He also discusses the unique challenges and opportunities of holding dual responsibilities as Ireland Lead and Corporate Vice President for Microsoft’s Global Operations Service Centre, overseeing a workforce of more than 6,400 people in Ireland.

We are proud to support this podcast and bring you conversations that inspire, challenge and inform, just as our values inspire us to lead the way in law and business.
