Trainee & Intern Programmes
Today, Philip Lee is one of the fastest growing law firms in Ireland.
At Philip Lee, our people are our greatest asset and the heart of the firm. That’s why we invest in our people, encourage their growth and support their well-being.
We have curated a positive culture and work-environment to reflect this and put in place different programmes and initiatives, to show how much we value and appreciate our employees. In 1993 our founding partner, Philip, wrote a book on the European procurement directive which became the catalyst to set up his eponymous law practice. Originally specialising in niche areas of law including international trade, competition and procurement law, the firm has grown consistently through a combination of hiring brilliant people and constant innovation.

Trainee, Rebecca Flanagan writes a summary about her experience at Philip Lee, her involvement in the Summer Programme and the progress she has made within the firm.
I joined Philip Lee in 2021 as part of their placement programme in collaboration with the University of Galway, where I was completing a Bachelor in Law and Business. During my time on placement,I completed rotations in the Healthcare, Litigation and Real Estate departments. This exposure gave me a clear insight into how different areas of law operate in practice and greatly benefited the completion of my studies.
I was delighted to accept an internshipwith the Firm after graduation, andwith the Firm’s support I was able tocomplete my FE-1s while working and gaining hands-on, practical experience. I was delighted to accept a training contract with the Firm in 2024. Since the start of my training, I have completed rotations in the Corporate, Real Estate, and Employment departments, and I have also had the opportunity to go on secondment. Throughout my training, I have consistently been entrusted with meaningful work and encouraged to contribute to client calls and meetings from an early stage—an invaluable learning experience. Senior colleagues are always willing to offer guidance and advice, and trainees’ opinions are genuinely valued and respected by the team. From the outset, it was clear that Philip Lee places a strong emphasis on developing and supporting interns and trainees from the very beginning of their careers, something that is evident through the availability of study leave, the buddy and mentorship programmes, and the firm’s open-door policy.
Trainees have the opportunity to learn directly from leading experts in their respective fields, which allows for continuous growth and professional development. Philip Lee’s broad range of practice areas and sectors offers trainees exposure to a diverse array of legal
disciplines early in their careers. This variety provides invaluable insight into how different areas of law interconnect in practice and enables trainees to develop well-rounded professional expertise. The hands-on nature of the training ensures continuous learning and professional growth, which is invaluable as you progress toward qualification.
