Last week, Sean McElligott, partner and head of our technology group, appeared before the Joint Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration to discuss the future of cybersecurity in Ireland in the context of the General Scheme of the National Cyber Security Bill 2024.
It was a lively session with discussions around how technical standards like ISO 27001 and frameworks such as CyFun can help organisations meet the new requirements. Also discussed was the risk of “Policy Creep” in respect of a number of the powers proposed for the NCSC, including the power to disconnect companies from the Irish network, for what appear, from this draft of the Bill, to be vague and opaque reasons.
Sean’s opening statement to the Committee is available here as well as his recent article on the topic here.
