Sean is head of the firm’s technology group, dedicated to advising on complex and large scale technology transactions, data protection and intellectual property.
Sean is a recognised authority on AI and its legal and regulatory implications, regularly advising clients on the EU AI Act and the interplay between AI, data protection, and intellectual property. He has appeared before an Oireachtas Joint Committee to give expert evidence on technology and regulatory policy, reflecting his standing as one of Ireland’s leading voices on the legal challenges posed by emerging technologies.
Sean holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from UCD and before qualifying as a solicitor, he worked for 13 years directly in IT for, amongst others, Bank of Ireland Global Markets and Motorola. Sean’s background in IT means that his practice is naturally focused on technology and the interplay between technology and the law.
He advises on the procurement and implementation of new IT systems (particularly large scale ERP systems), the licensing of software and the ownership and licensing of intellectual property rights. Sean’s practice also involves advising on privacy, data protection and cyber-security issues.
Sean also has significant experience of public procurement specialising in ICT projects and acts for both public sector contracting authorities and private sector bidders.
