Philip Lee LLP is proud to have advised the Minister on the preparation and successful adoption in a timely manner of Ireland’s first DMAP, including the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) in accordance with European law and the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021, as amended.
In October 2024, the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications made the South Coast Designated Maritime Area Plan for Offshore Renewable Energy (SC DMAP), following the approval of both Houses of the Oireachtas. The SC DMAP is Ireland’s first marine spatial plan specifically for offshore renewable energy (ORE). The SC DMAP identifies areas in the Irish part of the Celtic Sea within which future ORE projects may be located. The first such area (Tonn Nua) is to be the subject of Ireland’s second Offshore Renewable Energy Support Scheme Auction (ORESS 2.1) for approximately 900MW of new ORE generating capacity (see previous article on Tonn Nua ORESS 2.1 Terms and Conditions).
The Philip Lee LLP team led by Rachel Minch included Alison Hardiman, Alice Whittaker, Maeve Delargy, Margaret O’Leary, and Lee Boorman.
